This course is an introduction to speech communication, which emphasizes the practical skill of public speaking, including techniques to lessen speaker anxiety, and the use of visual aids to enhance speaker presentations.


Students in this course will receive information and a basic understanding in the nuances of disability rights, including gaining an understanding of the historical and social shifts in the construction of disability and gaining a basic understanding of the types of barriers to access and the nondiscrimination laws that impact the lives of persons with disabilities across the lifespan. Topics will include education, employment, recognize discrimination,   accommodations, independent living, and disability history, residential services, rights and responsibilities, family planning and fair housing, access to government programs and services, locate resources, and how to file a complaint.
